Oyster Bed Speedway’s First of Three 2025 Championship Finale Events Next!

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – August 14th, 2025) – The climax of Prince Edward Island’s 2025 stock car racing season has arrived. Race fans, welcome to championship season.

After eight action-packed events filled with captivating storylines, Oyster Bed Speedway has reached the final three races of its 40th anniversary season, all scheduled to crown season-long champions, with a total of seven racers across seven divisions who will have their names etched into the history books on a legendary list of those who’ve previously conquered the quarter-mile bullring oval.

The homestretch begins by rewarding the efforts and triumphs of the facility’s youngest, up-and-coming race teams over the summer of 2025 at the Reliable Motors Beginner and Outlaw Bandolero championship finale this Saturday, August 16th.

While the Bandolero class has had its fair share of heart-pounding and intense moments over the summer, especially in recent weeks, it’s worth noting how far the province’s emerging talents have come since the Season Opener in May, and how much they’ve been able to accomplish on and off the track whilst helping to inspire other children and keep stock car racing alive and thriving with youthful talent in Oyster Bed Bridge. All of that will be celebrated alongside the race teams with the most points accumulated over the season after Saturday’s races.

The Beginner Bandolero championship has come down to one final winner-takes-all showdown between sophomores Charlee Rayner (#24, Summerside, PE) and Regan “Reggie” MacBeth (#34, Pisquid West, PE). Rayner took the points lead (+4) after last Saturday’s races, after finishing no worse than second, and being awarded the feature win after post-race technical inspections. MacBeth has been on the doorstep of getting one of his own all season, and there’s no better time to get the job done than this weekend.

Meanwhile, Simon Doyle (#91, Stratford, PE) is in much more comfortable, but still not entirely relaxing territory as the ongoing Outlaw Bandolero points leader, with an 18-point gap between him and Wyatt Peters (#33, Oyster Bed Bridge, PE).

Both drivers tied in points gained last Saturday with 81 each, and are tied in feature wins this season with two each, all across four consecutive races between June 21st and August 2nd. Doyle has the upper hand in points averages (77.5 vs 75) and simply needs to hit his marks and run up front to clinch the championship, but any misfortune could allow Peters to pounce and steal the crown.

Behind them, reigning feature winner Hunter MacKinnon (#07, Oyster Bed Bridge, PE) and former Beginner Bandolero champion Mason Gillis (#9, Morell, PE) are locked into a battle for third, with three points separating the two in the fight for the final podium position.

Four classes will support the Bandoleros this weekend, being the Alvin’s Auto Sales and Repair Bombers, Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stocks, Moore Well Drilling Outlaws (Hondas), and Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stocks.

The Bombers return to the high banks for the first time since July 26th, ready to contest the penultimate race on their calendar ahead of their September 6th finale. Defending feature winner Spencer Paton (#35, Souris, PE) leads the standings by 17 points over Jamie Ronaghan (#59, Mount Albion, PE), with three drivers in a dogfight for third – rookies Jason Arseneau (#68, Bear River, PE) and Randy Perry (#33, West Devon, PE), and sophomore Caycie DesRoches (#16, Mount Albion, PE). Notably, Paton will have a substitute driver make their Bomber debut this weekend – Adam Holland (Souris, PE).

Three rounds remain for the Mini Stocks, with reigning Rookie of the Year and recent Mini Stock Twin 20s overall winner Campbell Stewart (#3, Oyster Bed Bridge, PE) at the head of the field by 19 points over veteran Ricky Bedell (#2, Montague, PE).

Last Saturday’s races saw, yet again, another dramatic shakeup in the Outlaw standings, with veteran Jordan LeClair (#47, Alberton, PE) jumping three-time champion Kendell Palmer (#45, Charlottetown, PE) for the top spot, while defending champion Brandon Forsyth (#3, Alberton, PE) leaped two positions over Corey Bridges (#04, Ellerslie, PE) and rookie Cash Bridges (#69, Miscouche, PE).

Meanwhile, the initial 40-point bubble between first and seventh experienced just as significant a change, thanks to Bradley Richard’s (#49, Tignish, PE) monumental first career Honda feature win on August 9th. Now at 28 points between him and LeClair with two races remaining, while also considering the three points separating LeClair and Palmer, all of the full-time cars are within striking distance of the championship, which will ultimately be settled on Labour Day.

And then there’s the Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stock title battle, where we finally have a new points leader. Last weekend, veteran Matthew Ford (#86, Ellerslie, PE) ended former Piston Cup champion Mike Duskey’s (#42, Hampshire, PE) lengthy championship lead – spanning from the Season Opener till last Saturday’s races – with back-to-back feature wins. It’s a four-point split between two of PEI’s best Street Stock dukes with two rounds left till the Labour Day finale.

Four-time track champion Randy Millar (#77, Freeland, PE) is in the catbird’s seat in third, 25 points behind, prepared to capitalize if anything happens to Ford or Duskey during this final leg. Millar came agonizingly close to a feature win last weekend and will be hungry to finally park his car in Palmer Automotive & Truck Center victory lane ahead of the Emmett Donahue Memorial 100 on September 6th. Qualifier-wise, he has three wins, including one last Saturday. Feature-wise, he hasn’t won since June 2024.
