(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – August 28th, 2025) – A stock car racing season conclusion like no other is on the horizon for Oyster Bed Speedway on Prince Edward Island.

The high-banked, quarter-mile oval’s 40th-anniversary season is set to wrap up not once, but twice, within the same week, with back-to-back events across six days showcasing the province and region’s best and rising stock car racers on a grand stage and crowning divisional champions in early September.

Up first is the most popular annual stock car racing event on PEI, promoted as “Labour Day Monday Madness” and sponsored by A&S Scrap Metals, on Monday, September 1st. A six-class race card is on tap for this action-packed Monday afternoon showdown on the North Shore, in addition to the return of Power Wheels kids races and the famed $1,000-to-win Demolition Derby.

While the Reliable Motors Beginner and Outlaw Bandolero championships were awarded on August 16th, the Bandoleros will be in action one more time on Labour Day as part of the first and only visit to Oyster Bed Bridge by the Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero Road Trip, sanctioned by industry promoter and announcer Tim Terry. Oyster Bed Speedway will play host to the fourth annual Mallard Electric September Shootout, a pivotal round for the first-ever Maritime Bandolero championship.

After the Power Wheels races, the Bandoleros will commence the event with a Beginner feature, named the “St. Louis Bar & Grill Charlottetown Appetizer Round.” Later, TCM Bandolero Road Trip championship points will be on the line across two 25-lap features, with one following the house class heat races and the other after the first house class feature.

The twin one lineup will be decided by a random draw, with eligible Beginners who are permitted to race the Twin 25s starting at the back. The twin two lineup will be determined based on the twin one finishing order and a top-five redraw presented by Conway Customz.

Sixteen (16) of the Maritime’s up-and-coming stock car racing talents will attempt to conquer one of the region and country’s most challenging race tracks, with a perfect half-and-half split of Islanders and Nova Scotians. Notably, the expected entry list includes three (3) Maritime track champions, two (2) drivers who have won a Mike Stevens Memorial or River Glade International, and eleven (11) Oyster Bed Speedway feature winners (regardless of class).

Even more interestingly, all of them are seeking their first September Shootout victory, with no past winners in the expected field. Former conquerors include Landon Pierce, Daniel Vandenburg, and Caden Tufts.

Bristol Matthews (#99, Nine Mile River, NS) leads the TCM Bandolero Road Trip points standings after four races – all of which were contested at River Glade Speedway in July – by two points over Scotia Speedworld local points leader Ethan Hicken (#5, New Glasgow, NS). The highest Islander in points is Mason Gillis (#9, Morell, PE), currently sitting in sixth, 26 points behind Matthews.

As for track-sanctioned divisions, three will contest their final points races on Labour Day. The PiccottCare Legend Super Series makes its triumphant return after over two months off, with the fourth and final race set to come down to the wire between Chase MacKay (#71M, Bear Cove, NS) and Tanton Wooldridge (#0, Summerside, PE), who remain the only feature winners thus far and also combine for seven qualifier victories, and are separated by just five points.

It should be noted that both drivers will be at Speedway 660’s two-day SpeedWeekend event on prior days, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed between weather and all other possible factors that both will be able to make it to Oyster Bed Bridge on Monday to fight in this winner-takes-all, “Battle of the Bridge” clash.

The Moore Well Drilling Outlaws enter their final races of the season on Labour Day, with just 30 points between first and seventh in the point standings. Veterans Jordan LeClair (#47, Alberton, PE) and Kendell Palmer (#45, Charlottetown, PE) pioneer the top two spots, with 12 points the deficit between them, but have rookie Cash Bridges (#69, Miscouche, PE) and sophomore and recent feature winner Brady Albert (#12, Richmond, PE) hot on their tails at -16 and -21, respectively.

LeClair, a former Mini Stock Super Series champion in 2018, will vie for his first season-long championship, while Palmer seeks his fourth. Bridges and Albert both collected race wins at the last round on August 16th, with Bridges scoring career win #1 in a qualifier and Albert returning to Palmer Automotive & Truck Center victory lane for the first time since the Victoria Day Season Opener in May.

With defending champion Brandon Forsyth (#3, Alberton, PE), Corey Bridges (#04, Ellerslie, PE), and another recent feature winner in Bradley Richard (#49, Tignish, PE) not out of the equation either, this is sure to be an instant classic of a finale for the best of the best in Hondas, with no guarantee of a championship for anybody.

Lastly, the Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stocks have a busy week ahead, with their final points round and yearly marquee race within five days of each other. The championship finale on Labour Day will set the stage for the $3,000-to-win 15th Annual Emmett Donahue Memorial 100 (Piston Cup) on Saturday, September 6th. In a nutshell, there’s a track divisional title and over $3,000 (to win) on the line for Oyster Bed Speedway’s most elite grassroots racers.

Heading into the division’s final race week, the stage has been set for a two-driver war between Matthew Ford (#86, Ellerslie, PE) and Mike Duskey (#42, Hampshire, PE). Each has been consistently in charge all season, behind the wheel for two decades, and carries the possibility of pulling off a career-defining stretch in the chase for their first home track summer crown and a crown jewel triumph.

Ford has won two of the last three features and has been undergoing an amazing comeback story after a crash in mid-June that many thought was a season-ender. Ford’s previous closest shot at a championship was a runner-up points finish in Hondas in 2021. Meanwhile, Duskey, a former Piston Cup and Maritime Street Stock Showdown winner, is the latest feature winner, with that victory being his first in two years, and hasn’t had this close of a shot at a divisional championship since his early-2020s Pro Stock efforts.

While Ford and Duskey are, on paper, the two drivers ready to settle this once and for all, we’re not leaving out the potential for a miracle for four-time track champion Randy Millar (#77, Freeland, PE), who isn’t entirely out of the question at -27. It would have to take some significant misfortune for the two drivers ahead of him, but as long as Millar hits his marks and doesn’t have any trouble himself, anything is possible. As he likes to say, winners never quit, and quitters never win.

The Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stocks will also have two races within six days, except both of their races will award championship points, with the champion ultimately decided on September 6th. Labour Day will offer an opportunity for veteran and former triple winner Ricky Bedell (#2, Montague, PE) to gain crucial ground on points leader and reigning Rookie of the Year Campbell Stewart (#3, Oyster Bed Bridge, PE), who is ahead by 29 points. Remember, Bedell’s first career feature and triple win came at this event two years ago, so this would be a vital time to repeat a past memorable breakout performance.

There’s also a heavyweight battle for the championship’s third and final podium position, with sophomore Corbin MacAulay (#17, Charlottetown, PE) and long-time racer Randy MacTavish (#76, Cornwall, PE) tied at 405 points each, and three-time feature winner Adam Holland (#01, Souris, PE) forming an 18-point bubble between the three.

Along with all of the excitement that the stock cars will have to offer, kids ages seven and under will showcase themselves in front of an expected capacity crowd for the next and final Power Wheels races of the season. After all the racing action is completed, it’s “Demolition Destruction” time, with $1,000 being paid out to the last car standing in the fan-favourite infield demolition derby. All rules and information about Power Wheels and the demolition derby can be found on our website at oysterbedspeedwaypei.ca/rules.

In the fan zone, catch the return of the A&S Scrap Metals car crusher just beyond the main gate! They will host the event’s 50/50 and provide multiple giveaways throughout the show at their tent – expect significant prizes if you are a lucky winner!
