Hall, Chisholm, Smith & Others Showcase Saturday Night Dominance at Oyster Bed Speedway!

0

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – August 3rd, 2025) – Nearly 16 years since Oyster Bed Speedway’s previous 200-lap race, and roughly 29 years after the legendary Scott Fraser’s 200-lap MASCAR win on Prince Edward Island, Cory Hall (#83) wrote his name into the history books with yet another masterclass performance.

The Plymouth, Nova Scotia driver led the final 177 laps of the Island Construction 200 en route to his fourth consecutive Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series win at Oyster Bed Speedway, recording back-to-back season sweeps at the quarter-mile bullring on Saturday, August 2nd.

Hall started the race in ninth as a result of a Series rule for drivers with a win in their previous start. After passing polesitter Robbie MacEwen (#40) for the lead on lap 24, Hall never looked back and roared away from the rest of the field over all remaining green-flag runs and restarts, ultimately finishing just under a second ahead of second place for his sixth career Series win.

Hall, the track’s first 200-lap race winner in over a decade, is now 3-for-3 at Oyster Bed Speedway in 2025 and will have a shot at a perfect year on the Island with the Maritime Pro Stock Tour on September 6th. The win is also Hall’s seventh across the Maritimes in eight starts thus far, eerily and closely replicating a similar feat that Scott Fraser made in 1996, with seven wins in his first nine starts.

The remainder of the podium and top five were filled by PEI drivers, with the young Tanton Wooldridge (#01) leading the charge with a third consecutive Series podium finish and his best career result to date in second, making him the new Series points leader. MacEwen, who led the first 23 laps, held on for third over Dylan Gosbee (#16) in an intense affair for the final podium position. Darren MacKinnon (#18) rounded out the top five after a roller coaster of a night.

MacKinnon’s night started with a spin in turn one after contact with Hall with 10 laps completed – the accident collected Hudson Weston (#43) and Brodie Lewis (#22). Later, an incident with Ryan Messer (#1) on the frontstretch would end Messer’s night after suffering heavy damage from the outside wall.

MacEwen and Wooldridge tied for the most passing points (+3) after the heat races, with MacEwen’s heat race win earning him the pole. Greg Fahey (#20) was the other heat race winner. The Island Construction 200 took an hour and thirty-four minutes to complete under the lights and night skies, with just three cautions delaying the race. Seventeen (17) cars took the green flag.

The Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends Tour visited Oyster Bed Speedway for the first time this year for the PiccottCare 50, with fifteen (15) cars making the call for the event. Points leader and former Bandolero track champion Danny Chisholm (#87) did what Cory Hall would do later, by taking the lead in the early stages – lap eight (8) for Chisholm – and never surrendering it the rest of the way, even through multiple mid-race cautions, en route to his 13th career Tour win, his third on PEI, and first since 2022.

From second on back, numerous drivers battled hard to get on the podium and into the top five. Owen Mahar (#66), the race’s reigning winner before Saturday, placed second, while track championship point leader Chase MacKay (#71M) outduelled former Island winner Caden Tufts (#00) for third in a spirited battle. Defending Tour champion Ayden Christensen (#24) beat polesitter Stephen Piccott Jr. (#34) to the line for fifth. A special shoutout to local competitor and rookie Cole Doyle on a 12th-place finish in his Tour debut.

The race was slowed by three cautions, with a 31-lap green flag run stopped by a Christensen spin in turn four. Cautions bred cautions, with the next two restarts seeing Daniel Vandenburg (#97) spin in turn one and Teagan Dempsey (#23) take a hard hit to the frontstretch outside wall. Chisholm and Piccott Jr. won the heat races.

The Heart of a Champion Hot Rod Classics powered by Kimco made their annual visit to the Island on Saturday, bringing thirteen (13) vintage hot rods to the high-banked oval for the Confederation Classic. Former drag racer Jim Rankin (#63) scored his second Oyster Bed Speedway win within three years after an exciting battle with Jeff Ainslie (#12) from start to finish. Stacey Clements (#99c) secured third ahead of Peter Lawrence (#99) and Donny Young (#55).

It was a strong bounce back for Young after going around in turn three on lap one and being involved in a later incident with Kevin Turnbull (#47). Turnbull would then spin on his own with 15 laps completed, and the rest of the race went caution-free. Canada’s Ironman Gary Elliott (#36) and Clements claimed heat race victories.

Three house classes took to the high banks on Saturday for extended-distance championship point racing, setting the stage for the regional touring series features that capped the night.

In one of the wildest hard-charger runs seen in a long time at Oyster Bed Speedway, Dave Matthews (#99) returned to the Island for the first time since the RE/MAX Rumble on June 28th, and rocketed from shotgun on the ten (10) car grid to first for his first feature win on PEI in the Moore Well Drilling Outlaw (Honda) 30-lap feature.

The Nova Scotian and multi-time Scotia Speedworld champion methodically picked his way to second place with 16 laps remaining, spending the latter half of the race catching Ethan Albert (#11). He eventually reached his back bumper with two laps remaining, and with one last send into the final turns on the final lap, Matthews beat Albert to the line by a nose.

Cody Byrne (#67) and Bradley Richard (#49) comfortably solidified third and fourth in the closing laps, while rookie Cash Bridges (#69) had to fend off defending champion Brandon Forsyth (#3) for a top-five finish. Ten (10) cars were on the grounds for this round.

Simon Doyle (#91) became the next two-time Reliable Motors Outlaw Bandolero feature winner this season, going back-to-back after also winning on July 5th. Doyle took charge of the lead over Wyatt Peters (#33) with eight laps remaining and captured the 20-lap feature checkered flag with ease, which was his second of the night after also winning his heat race.

Hunter MacKinnon (#07) and Payton Gallant (#42) had a closer-quarter clash for third, with MacKinnon barely taking home the final podium position. Hudson Linzel-Waddell (#57) rounded out the top five ahead of Oliver Rayner (#23), who achieved a career-best Outlaw Bandolero finish of sixth.

A red flag was required for a major crash in turns three and four, three laps into the race. Andrew O’Connor (#63), Mason Gillis (#9), and Irelyn Rose (#47) were unable to finish, but all walked away unhurt. Bristol Matthews (#99) was also caught up but returned to the track later after a quick repair in the pits. O’Connor joined Doyle with a heat race win.

The Nova Scotia feature winner streak extended to five races in the Reliable Motors Beginner Bandoleros, with Ryder Smith dominantly joining Ben Turple in the two-timer category in 2025 with consecutive victories.

Points leader Regan MacBeth (#34) and Charlee Rayner (#24) cracked the podium ahead of rookie Kace Scott (#81) and Landon MacBeth (#32). Five (5) cars started the 15-lap feature, with one early caution for a two-car incident involving Rayner and Regan MacBeth in turn two.

Oyster Bed Speedway’s 2025 stock car racing season continues on Saturday, August 9th. Five divisions are on the race card, including Beginner and Outlaw Bandoleros, Mini Stocks, Outlaws, and Street Stocks. It’s the marquee event of the season for the Mini Stocks, as that division will have Twin 20s for the first time – a championship point race to start the event and a $500-to-win dash to conclude the night, with the latter having its starting lineup randomly drawn. The start time for races is scheduled for 6:00pm.
