Stewart Seizes Full Moon Fortune on CNAF Night at Oyster Bed Speedway!

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – August 11th, 2025) – Under the North Shore sunset and a glowing full moon, race fans at Oyster Bed Speedway were treated to a roller coaster of a show on Canadian National Autism Foundation Kids Race Night on Saturday, August 9th.

Oyster Bed Bridge’s Campbell Stewart (#3) continues to take the Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock division by storm this year, adding yet another trophy, along with a significant cash prize, to his collection with the overall Mini Stock Twin 20s victory.

The reigning Rookie of the Year and current championship points leader started his night with a runner-up finish in the first twin, a 20-lap points feature. He later charged from eighth to first within five laps in the second, $500-to-win non-points twin, which included a random draw for the starting lineup, earning the 20-lap race win and a division-high third feature victory ahead of twin one winner Adam Holland (#01) and Ryan Cormier (#95).

Holland would steal second place from Cormier in the closing laps, with Ricky Bedell (#2) and Rosie Kitson (#13) rounding out the top five. One caution slowed the race, with Randy MacTavish (#76) coming to a halt in turn two with a blown tire. Nine (9) cars were in attendance for the division’s marquee race of the season.

Veteran Matthew Ford (#86) went back-to-back in Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stock features, beating multi-time champion Randy Millar (#77) in an intense, spirited battle for the win. The affair unfolded after an early restart, with Ford catching Millar in the final leg and the two fighting side-by-side for multiple laps. Millar had a slightly better advantage on the outside line, but coming to two laps remaining, contact with the frontstretch outside wall allowed Ford to jump ahead and hang on for the win.

Millar managed to hang on for second ahead of Mike Duskey (#42), rookie Devin Gallant (#36), and Nick Chaisson (#27). Gallant led several laps from the pole to start the 25-lap feature. The race’s lone caution was due to a frontstretch spin by Colton Ford (#35).

Millar won the heat race, and Colton Ford won the semi race. Nine (9) cars took to the track for this round. Notably, David Griffin (#26) and Sarah Jay (#30) made their first starts since May and June, respectively. In the championship, Matthew Ford’s win, along with three total podiums on the night, helped him overtake Duskey for the lead, with four points now separating them with two races remaining.

For the first time in about half a decade, Alberton’s Bradley Richard (#49) drove into Palmer Automotive and Truck Center feature victory lane after a chaotic 20-lap Moore Well Drilling Outlaw race, achieving his first major win in a Honda at Oyster Bed Speedway.

Initially, he was on pace for a solid top-five finish, but a series of late-race cautions with plenty of contact and frustration amongst drivers allowed him to take advantage and surge to a hard-earned victory. The frenzy began with a turn-four incident with three laps remaining between Kendell Palmer (#45) and Jeff Bridges (#95). On the eventual restart, Ethan Albert (#11), who had led every lap up to that point, and Cody Byrne (#67) got together at the front of the pack exiting turn two. Amazingly, a massive pileup did not ensue. Albert managed to come home fifth, while Byrne left the track.

After post-race technical inspections, Jordan LeClair (#47) and defending champion Brandon Forsyth (#3) were awarded the final two podium positions, with each driver recording their best feature finishes in some time after a string of tough results. Both drivers gained crucial championship points, with LeClair now in the lead by a mere three points over Palmer, and Forsyth jumping two positions to third. The bubble between first and seventh has now closed by 12 points to 28.

Albert and Byrne each won their respective heat and semi races. Eleven (11) cars made the call to this event.

In the Reliable Motors Outlaw Bandoleros, Oyster Bed Bridge’s Hunter MacKinnon (#07) held off fellow hometown competitor Wyatt Peters (#33) for his second career feature win and first since June. MacKinnon launched ahead of Irelyn Rose (#47) on a mid-race restart and never looked back. Rose settled for fourth behind points leader Simon Doyle (#91), who rounded out the podium.

A major crash in turn four marred the 15-lap feature with nine laps remaining. On the first lap, Andrew O’Connor (#63) charged from fourth to first and led several laps while being chased down by Rose, until a right-front spindle malfunction and tire falloff sent O’Connor’s car sailing toward the outside wall. As the next pack of cars attempted to avoid the accident, Payton Gallant (#42) had nowhere to go and was collected, with both cars receiving significant damage.

Both drivers were awake and alert at the scene, helped out of their cars, and were later taken to the hospital as a safety precaution. No further details will be shared, but we wish Andrew and Payton a speedy recovery.

Peters and Doyle won the heat races, and O’Connor and Mason Gillis (#9) won the semi races. Ten (10) cars were on the grounds.

In the Reliable Motors Beginner Bandoleros, after post-race technical inspections, Charlee Rayner (#24) was awarded the 10-lap feature win, her first since the Victoria Day Season Opener on May 19th. Rookie Addison MacLean (#9), from Linacy, Nova Scotia, finished second in her Oyster Bed Speedway debut, bouncing back from a spin during a qualifier. Landon MacBeth (#32) cracked the feature podium for the first time since May.

Ryder Smith (#43) won the heat and semi races. Five (5) cars started the event. Kace Scott (#81) attempted to compete but did not take the green flag after a practice crash – we send our healing thoughts to Kace as well.

Oyster Bed Speedway’s 2025 stock car racing season continues next Saturday, August 16th. It’ll be the first championship point racing event in 2025 where season-long championships will be awarded, with the Beginner and Outlaw Bandoleros set to conclude the points portion of their campaigns. For most drivers, it will serve as a “test and tune” for the upcoming Tim’s Corner Motorsports Bandolero September Shootout on Labour Day. The Mini Stocks, Outlaws, Street Stocks, and Alvin’s Auto Sales and Repair Bombers fill the rest of the August 16th race card, with a scheduled green flag time of 6:00pm.
