Hall Makes History, Cormier Strikes Rich Again at Emmett Donahue Memorial Season Finale!

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – September 8th, 2025) – On the backdrop of another gorgeous North Shore sunset and full-moon night skies, Oyster Bed Speedway concluded its 40th anniversary season on Saturday, September 6th, with an exciting stock car racing show in front of a packed house in Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island.

The 2025 season finale served as an emotional tribute to “The Legend” Emmett Donahue, whose memory was dedicated to with the Emmett Donahue Memorial 100, otherwise known as the 15th Annual Piston Cup Street Stock 100.

Michael Cormier (#68) showcased his Maritime-wide Street Stock dominance once again, albeit with some mid-race adversity, leading 49 of 100 laps en route to his third career Piston Cup victory and his second in a row, becoming the first driver in race history to have their name carved three times on the prestigious Piston Cup.

The Grand-Barachois, N.B. native started fourth after 12-lap qualifying heat races, with the qualifiers notably utilizing a “Passing Points” system for the first time, and quickly charged his way to the front within seven laps. Cormier led 28 consecutive laps until 2022 winner Mike Duskey (#42), who qualified sixth, caught up as both drivers caught a pack of lap traffic.

The traffic jam opened the door for Duskey to take control for a few laps before the race’s first caution for a single-car spin. Cormier regained the lead on the restart, with Duskey retaking it about 10 laps later and leading 33 consecutive laps amidst numerous minor mid-race cautions. During one of them, Cormier went to the pits with a front-end issue and returned before the following restart, where he sat 13th, still on the lead lap.

With what looked to be the car to beat, Duskey’s continuous, lengthy lead was suddenly cut short with 22 laps remaining when Gordon Stewart (#24) spun in turn one with a blown motor right in front of Duskey. With not much room for avoidance, slight contact was made, forcing Duskey to make a trip to the pits and relinquish a promising run; he would settle for 10th at the end of the night.

The rest of the race went caution-free, with Kenny MacKenzie Jr. (#85) and Cormier putting on a spirited battle for the win. Cormier cleared with 10 laps remaining and ran away with the victory. MacKenzie Jr. and recent Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stock champion Matthew Ford (#86) rounded out the podium, with Ford being the top finishing PEI car.

After post-race tech, Mitchell Arsenault (#51) and Colton Ford (#35) were awarded top-five finishes. Thirteen (13) of the eighteen (18) cars that started the 100-lap feature finished it, with six (6) left on the lead lap.

Four cautions slowed the one-hour race, which had five different leaders and nine lead changes. MacKenzie Jr., Darrell Ford (#53), and Matthew Ford captured 12-lap heat race wins. Cormier’s feature win, between base, lap, contingency, and tow money, earned him over $4,200.

Two regional tours came to town, each for their second and final visit to Oyster Bed Speedway in 2025 – the Fort Garry Industries Maritime Pro Stock Tour and Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends Tour.

Cory Hall (#83) made history by becoming the new all-time winningest Pro Stock/Super Late Model driver in Prince Edward Island, with his dominant Mr. Lube + Tires 150 victory putting him above Greg Proude with seven wins between the Maritime Pro Stock Tour and Super Late Model Series combined.

Hall led 128 of 150 laps and fired off like a missile on every restart, including one with six laps remaining, where Ashton Tucker (#2) and Jarrett Butcher (#54) had an incredible duel for the runner-up position, which went to Tucker by a bumper at the checkered flag.

For this season, Hall’s win was his sixth with the Pro Stock Tour and fourth (a.k.a. undefeated) on the Island across both Maritime tours. Gage Gilby (#25G) and Robbie MacEwen (#40) scored top-five finishes, with Tanton Wooldridge (#01) and Mark Leclair (#51) being the other two PEI drivers to place inside the top 10.

Seven cautions, two for competition and five for incidents, delayed the race, which took just over an hour to complete.

Two major incidents occurred, with immediate stackups eventually leading to major contact three laps into the race between MacEwen and Chris Hughes (#32) in turn one, which somehow didn’t cause a bigger wreck. Hughes attempted to finish with a severely damaged left side, but ultimately left for the pits after drawing a caution with nearly 20 laps remaining.

Just after the second competition caution, at 83 laps completed, a chain reaction of bumper-to-bumper action in turns one and two caused Dylan Gosbee (#16) and Darren MacKinnon (#18) to get together, each sustaining significant damage. While MacKinnon’s night was over, Gosbee tried sticking it out for a little longer, but eventually retired as well.

Twenty (20) cars started the event, a season-high for Pro Stocks/Super Late Models. Stephen Lively (#30), Russell Smith Jr. (#88), and Gosbee were 10-lap heat race winners. Hall extended his points lead to +10 over Tucker, with Butcher 41 points behind, still in third, with two races remaining on the Tour calendar.

Danny Chisholm (#87) also brought out the brooms for his own PEI sweep this year, obliterating the field in the Island ICF 50 for his fifth Maritime League of Legends win this season and the 17th of his career, and fourth on the Island. Chisholm had a brief challenge from Ayden Christensen (#24) on a mid-race restart, but eventually fled and never looked back.

Christensen and recent PiccottCare Legend Super Series champion Chase MacKay (#71) rounded out the podium, with 2023 winner Caden Tufts (#00) and Campbell Delaney (#9) concluding the top five.

Only one caution slowed the race, which was completed in under 20 minutes. Nineteen (19) cars took the green flag. Chisholm, Tufts, and Christensen earned 10-lap heat race wins.

Two track-sanctioned divisions crowned the oval’s final 40th anniversary season champions in extended-distance competition – the Alvin’s Auto Sales and Repair Bombers and Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stocks.

Jason Arseneau (#68) ended his first Bomber campaign on a high and rather unexpectedly dramatic note with his third feature win of the season, the most of any driver, in Saturday’s 25-lap feature, in addition to placing second in the championship.

He took the lead on lap two, with Spencer Paton (#35) and Jamie Ronaghan (#59) following behind. The three exchanged leads for multiple laps while trading some paint until a lap-11 yellow flag due to a tire coming off of Randy Perry’s (#33) car. Paton would then pit with a flat tire and missed the restart, which gave way for Arseneau and Ronaghan to settle it out for the win.

On the last lap, the two caught up to rookie and lap car Kaleb McGee (#05), and the three got together in turn three. McGee would spin, but, amazingly, even with flat tires from the incident, Arseneau and Ronaghan remained side-by-side and banged doors all the way to the checkered flag, with Arseneau beating Ronaghan at the start-finish line.

Caycie DesRoches (#16) completed the podium. Seven (7) cars were part of this championship finale. Ronaghan won the 10-lap heat race and clinched the championship.

Sophomore Austin Corrigan (#10) saved his highest moment of the season for the last race, holding off reigning Rookie of the Year Campbell Stewart (#3) to achieve a long-awaited first career win in the 30-lap Mini Stock feature, ahead of Stewart and veteran Randy MacTavish (#76).

This caution-free final round included eight (8) cars. Adam Holland (#01) was victorious in the 10-lap heat race. Stewart secured the championship by starting the event.
