(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – June 22nd, 2025) – It was a lengthy, but intense night of stock car racing under the lights at Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday, June 21st, with a stellar crowd taking advantage of the 50%-off deal for general admission and interactive on-track activities as part of the annual Fan Appreciation Night.
The third event of the 2025 season for Prince Edward Island’s premier auto racing facility saw three drivers claim triple wins (two getting their first), six drivers record their first career win at Oyster Bed Speedway, and three drivers achieve their first career feature victories.
After multiple years of trying and frustration, former Bandolero champion Tanton Wooldridge (#0, Summerside, PEI) finally won himself a Legend feature in point-paying competition, besting Chase MacKay (#71M, Bear Cove, NS) in an exciting battle from start to finish in round two for the PiccottCare Legend Super Series. While a caution on lap nine for Daniel Vandenburg (#97, Lower Onslow, NS) allowed MacKay to steal the race lead for over 10 laps, Wooldridge charged back ahead on the outside line with 10 laps remaining and held off MacKay to the checkered flag.
Stephen Piccott, Jr. (#34, Charlottetown, PEI) added another 30-lap feature podium to his resume ahead of Vandenburg, who recorded back-to-back feature top fives and scored his first career win at Oyster Bed Speedway in his heat race. Wooldridge, MacKay, and rookie Cole Doyle (#12, Stratford, PEI) were other qualifying race winners, with Doyle’s semi race win being his first in a Legend.
Ricky Bedell (#2, Montague, PEI) was the first triple winner of the night, going from a blown motor during last Saturday’s feature to pioneering the field in all three Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock races. Every race saw Bedell and reigning Rookie of the Year Campbell Stewart (#3, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) fight neck and neck for the win, with Bedell experiencing some loose moments in the turns, but he fiercely held on every time. It was his first 20-lap feature win since June 2024 and his first race win since September 2024.
Sophomore Austin Corrigan (#10, Dromore, PEI) had a strong return after missing the last event, wheeling his way to third in a tight battle against Randy MacTavish (#76, Cornwall, PEI) and Adam Holland (#01, Souris, PEI).
Next in line was Ben Turple (#55, Lake Charlotte, NS), who dominated all three of his races in the Reliable Motors Beginner Bandolero division and collected back-to-back feature wins after previously winning on June 14th. It took one lap for Turple to take charge in the 10-lap feature, and he led every lap from there on out, even after a lap-three caution for a multi-car incident involving rookie Kace Scott (#81, Clyde River, PEI) and Sarah Vandenburg (#16, Lower Onslow, NS).
It was a night dominated by Nova Scotia drivers, with Ryder Smith (#43, Wellington, NS) and Vandenburg finishing behind Turple in the feature and, along with Turple, taking home qualifying race victories. Smith and Vandenburg each earned their first wins on Prince Edward Island.
Concluding the triple win list was hometown hero Randy Snow (#26, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI), who had the performance of a lifetime within the Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stock division, avenging what barely fell out of his hands with one lap remaining last July. After he and car owner David Griffin faced much adversity during the last two events, Snow used the momentum from a courageous feature podium run last Saturday to obliterate the field in all three Fan Appreciation Night races.
Thanks to the inverted points average system, Snow had the advantage of leading the field to green in each race, and it wasn’t until late in the 25-lap feature that somebody nearly dethroned him. In the dying laps, Randy Millar (#77, Freeland, PEI) had charged up to second after starting fifth and was all over the back of Snow’s machine and occasionally side-by-side. Ultimately, Snow’s corner exit speed was superior in a respectful, spirited duel, earning the 2016 Rookie of the Year his first career triple and feature win.
One caution delayed the feature, as, on lap nine, Matthew Ford (#86, Ellerslie, PEI) took a heavy hit to the outside wall exiting turn four after tire-to-tire contact with Andrew Thompson (#4, Hartsville, PEI), ending his night early. Besides that, all green flag racing was some of the best we’ve seen out of the Street Stocks this year, with the “best of the rest” battle in all three races having constant comers and goers.
As for the other two divisions, two drivers ended long winless droughts in feature competition, starting with Wyatt Peters (#33, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) in Reliable Motors Outlaw Bandoleros. It was a roller coaster of a night for Peters, which began with a heat race win – his second of the season – and later saw him catch major air for a second consecutive event, launching off the side of Andrew O’Connor’s (#63, Charlottetown, PEI) car down the frontstretch during semi race action.
Peters, O’Connor, and Irelyn Rose (#47, Halifax, NS) were all okay after the incident. O’Connor took a big shunt to the outside wall but managed to return for the feature. Meanwhile, Peters started seventh in the impressively caution-free 15-lap feature and soared his way to the front through close-quarter racing and multiple three-wide instances. With 10 laps remaining, he caught up to Lily Whynot (#2, Dartmouth, NS) for the top spot and took it for good. Peters’ feature win was his first with championship points on the line, and his first in any capacity since an open event in July 2023.
Whynot had a strong night in her second PEI start in 2025, which began with a heat race runner-up run and later a first career Oyster Bed Speedway win in her semi race. In the feature, after a crazy fight for second between five cars, she ultimately came home fourth behind Simon Doyle (#91, Stratford, PEI) and points leader Mason Gillis (#9, Morell, PEI) and ahead of Hunter MacKinnon (#07, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI).
Whynot, Rose, Peters, and Doyle each collected qualifying race wins, with Rose’s being their first since September 2023.
In the Moore Well Drilling Outlaw division, defending champion Brandon Forsyth (#3) returned to Palmer Automotive and Truck Center victory lane in feature competition for the first time since the 2024 season opener. Forsyth snatched the race lead on lap nine from Jamie Cummings (#81, Hampshire, PEI) and withstood a challenge from Jordan LeClair (#47, Alberton, PEI) en route to the 20-lap race win.
Forsyth, who entered Saturday’s event eighth in points, made a significant jump in the championship thanks to finishes no worse than second in all three of his races, which LeClair also achieved. After post-race inspections, each driver was awarded an additional win in the qualifiers, and Kendell Palmer (#45, Charlottetown, PEI) was moved up onto the feature podium. Cody Byrne (#67, Belfast, PEI) was another qualifying race winner in his first start at Oyster Bed Speedway since the 2023 RE/MAX Rumble.
Points leader Brady Albert (#12, Richmond, PEI) struggled to continue his momentum from his opening day triple win, recording heat and semi race finishes of fourth and capping the night with a seventh-place feature run. During his heat race, he narrowly avoided a far worse effect on his championship position after a frontstretch incident with rookie Cash Bridges (#69, Miscouche, PEI).
The second heat race was marred by a scary crash for Layton Delaney (#7, Kensington, PEI), who was making his first start this year. Heavy contact entering turn one with Byrne and Corey Bridges (#04, Ellerslie, PEI) sent Delaney’s car for a wheelie over the turn one hill and a hard slam into the trees beyond the pit ramp. Delaney was helped out of his car and later taken to the hospital due to a potential wrist injury. We send our thoughts and prayers to Layton.
All race winners, feature top-three finishers, and currently confirmed post-race inspection results are listed below, all deemed official. Full results and updated championship points will be available in the coming days.
Oyster Bed Speedway’s 2025 stock car racing season continues next Saturday, June 28th, for the fourth annual RE/MAX Rumble at 6pm. It’s the Moore Well Drilling Outlaw division’s annual special event – a pair of Twin 40s with a $1,500 winning prize and a minimum guaranteed purse of $7,500. On the undercard will be the Reliable Motors Beginner and Outlaw Bandoleros, Alvin’s Auto Sales and Repair Bombers, Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stocks, and PiccottCare Legends. The Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stocks enter an off-week and will return to action on Saturday, July 5th.
