(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – June 30th, 2025) – The best action was saved for last at Oyster Bed Speedway’s annual Canada Day Weekend race event on Saturday, June 28th, 2025, as Kody Quinn (#31, Sydney, NS) and Dave Matthews (#99, Nine Mile River, NS) found themselves in a heated battle for $1,500 in the closing laps of the fourth annual RE/MAX Rumble presented by Kris Fournier and RE/MAX Harbourside.
While Matthews dominated most of the second of the Twin 40s, Quinn charged his way to him from fifth while navigating lap traffic within the closing laps, catching him with five laps remaining and engaging in an exciting dogfight, where neither driver gave the other an inch. Coming to the white flag, a slow Tanton Wooldridge (#12, Summerside, PEI) in turn two forced a caution and a green-white-checkered restart. After some more door-to-door action and bump and runs, Quinn held on after one last send by Matthews in the final corners to secure the feature victory and big money prize.
It was Quinn’s first start at Oyster Bed Speedway since 2017, and he also won the 40-lap qualifier at the show’s beginning, rushing from sixth to first within 10 laps. One caution slowed the qualifier, as Jonathan Fitzpatrick (#78, Winsloe, PEI) had a motor failure with 15 laps remaining, but it wouldn’t deny Quinn of his eventual win. Matthews and Cody Byrne (#67, Belfast, PEI) swept the podium across both races. Guy Basque (#35, Tracadie, NB) and Jessie LeClair (#47, Tignish, PEI) claimed top-five finishes in the feature.
A big thanks to Quinn, Matthews, Basque, Neil Miousse (#71, New Minas, NS), Randy Storey (#92, Royal Road, NB), and Steve Matthews (#198, Brookfield, NS) for making the long haul over from the mainland and supporting our efforts.
Quinn wasn’t the only Cape Breton Island native to earn a trophy from one island to another. Bandolero sophomore Jake Campbell (#38, Sydney, NS) dominated the Reliable Motors Beginner Bandolero heat, semi, and feature races in his first start at Oyster Bed Speedway. Campbell’s feature win makes it three in a row for Nova Scotians dating back to Father’s Day Eve (June 14th), and two triple wins since Fan Appreciation Night (June 21st), joining Ben Turple.
It was Campbell’s first time running on a high-banked oval, having only experienced Bud’s Speedway and Scotia Speedworld since last year, and he had no problem adjusting to the unfamiliar high banks en route to his triple win. It was back-to-back weekends with Campbell in victory lane somewhere within the region, as he also scored a first feature win at Scotia the previous weekend.
Charlee Rayner (#24, Summerside, PEI) recovered nicely from a qualifier incident to come home second in the 10-lap feature, ahead of Regan MacBeth (#34, Pisquid West, PEI) and Landon MacBeth (#32, Pisquid West, PEI).
Wyatt Peters (#33, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) became the first multi-time feature winner in Reliable Motors Outlaw Bandoleros in 2025, recording back-to-back victories after also winning on Fan Appreciation Night. After starting seventh, he jumped to third within five laps. On a later restart, he immediately took the lead, soaring to the win ahead of Simon Doyle (#91, Stratford, PEI) and Hunter MacKinnon (#07, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI), the latter showcasing another impressive podium run.
Points leader Mason Gillis (#9, Morell, PEI) had a phenomenal comeback after a scary close call during his semi race. Heading into turn one with three laps remaining, one of Gillis’ tires came off his Bandolero and went flying over the trees into the campground. Thankfully, the car went for a harmless spin over the turn two hill, and Gillis went on to finish fourth in the feature after starting ninth. Rounding out the top five was Irelyn Rose (#47, Halifax, NS).
Heat race winners were Doyle and Gillis. Semi race winners were Bristol Matthews (#99, Nine Mile River, NS) and Doyle.
The Alvin’s Auto Sales and Repair Bombers made their long-awaited return after over a month off, sanctioning their first races since opening day on May 19th. Jamie Ronaghan (#59, Mount Albion, PEI) claimed his second career Bomber triple win, his first since an open race at the 2024 season finale, hanging on over fellow past triple winner Spencer Paton (#35, Souris, PEI) in all three races.
Rookie Jason Arseneau (#68, Bear River, PEI) recorded his first career feature podium in his second start, a big feat after leaving the season-opening feature midway. Zach Chappell (#44, Vernon Bridge) made his first start this season and finished fourth. Defending champion Ryan Cormier (#33, East Bideford, PEI) rounded out the top five whilst substituting for Randy Perry.
Chase MacKay (#71M, Bear Cove, NS) returned to Palmer Automotive and Truck Center feature victory lane in round three for the PiccottCare Legend Super Series, dominating most of the 30-lap race and scoring his second win within three features across three weekends. Another one for MacKay means we have yet to have a feature podium without him, Tanton Wooldridge (#0, Summerside, PEI), and Stephen Piccott, Jr. (#34, Charlottetown, PEI). Wyatt Peters (#33, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) and Allison MacKinnon (#07A, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) picked up their first career Legend feature top fives.
The feature was marred by an early, violent crash for Daniel Vandenburg (#97, Lower Onslow, NS). During an intense four-car battle for the lead in the opening laps, exiting turn two on lap seven, Vandenburg and Wooldridge made contact, sending the former head-on into the outside wall. Vandenburg walked away unharmed.
Wooldridge and MacKay won the heat races. Cole Doyle (#12, Stratford, PEI) and Wooldridge won the semi races.
In Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stocks, we had a first-time feature and triple winner, as Adam Holland (#01, Souris, PEI) put the icing on the cake to a brilliant day for Prince County drivers, controlling all three races. His biggest challenge came during the 20-lap feature from recent feature winner Ricky Bedell (#2, Montague, PEI), who settled for the runner-up position. Campbell Stewart (#3, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) extended his feature podium streak to four, having yet to finish outside the top three this year.
Despite dealing with brake problems, Corbin MacAulay (#17, Charlottetown, PEI) rebounded from sixth in the heat race and missing the semi race by finishing a resilient fourth in the feature, ahead of Randy MacTavish (#76, Cornwall, PEI) and Austin Corrigan (#10, Dromore, PEI).
