(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – June 15th, 2025) – Oyster Bed Speedway’s 2025 edition of the Father’s Day Weekend Spectacular was nothing short of that last word – spectacular – for the track’s first Saturday night show of the season in Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island.
An event dedicated in memory to four recent passings and some during the recent offseason – Diane Piccott, Donnie “Old Man” McNeill, Kirk Beaton, and Tom Scully – the drivers and fans showed with a stellar car count across all six divisions and a strong crowd eager to take in some stock car racing action under the lights after back-to-back weekends of inclement weather. It was an excellent day for King Competition out of Pictou County in Nova Scotia, who had multiple drivers out of their shop record victories.
The Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series rolled into town for their second of six rounds – the Universal Truck and Trailer 150 – with 19 of the region’s best Super Late Model stars racing underneath a beautiful sunset along the North Shore. It was a case of déjà vu for polesitter Cory Hall (#83, Plymouth, NS), whose unbeaten streak within Series competition on PEI since 2024 continued, leading all 150 laps en route to his fourth career Super Late Model win and third Series win at the quarter-mile bullring.
Similar to how last year’s Universal Truck and Trailer 150 played out, Hall had two challengers take turns at him throughout the race – podium finishers Dylan Gosbee (#16, Cornwall, PEI) and Tanton Wooldridge (#01, Summerside, PEI). The two Islanders and former track champions had a consistent battle for second alongside Darren MacKinnon (#18, Charlottetown, PEI), with the latter coming home fifth behind Greg Fahey (#20, Oak Bay, NB).
Gosbee’s runner-up result was his first Series podium since his previous win in 2023. Wooldridge’s third-place run was a career best in Super Late Models. Behind MacKinnon, Robbie MacEwen (#40, Sherwood, PEI) and Kent Vincent (#8, Crapaud, PEI) were the other two PEI drivers to finish inside the top 10. Rookie Brandon Albert (#37, Summerside, PEI) collected back-to-back top 15 Series finishes. Canada’s Ironman Gary Elliott (#36, Murray Siding, NS) had an impressive showing in his first start on PEI in 2025, jumping from 19th to 14th for his second Series top 15 finish at the high-banked oval.
It was a PEI sweep in heat races, with Vincent, MacKinnon, and Gosbee claiming wins to start the evening. A full race replay of the Universal Truck and Trailer 150 will be available on the Series’ YouTube channel in the near future. The Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series will return to Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday, August 2nd, for round four of six – a special format race with details still to be announced, but expected to be beyond 150 laps. The PiccottCare Legend Super Series got its four-race season underway, making history with the first championship point-paying Legend races at Oyster Bed Speedway since 2019. In a race that featured 10 entries, including three mainlanders, Chase MacKay (#71M, Bear Cove, NS) came out on top in a three-car battle, capturing his first Legend feature win away from home and earning $300.
MacKay led every lap of the caution-free 30-lap feature ahead of Stephen Piccott, Jr. (#34, Charlottetown, PEI), who recorded his best career Legend run in honour of his late grandmother. Piccott had a rearview mirror filled by Tanton Wooldridge (#0) from start to finish, but did a superb job defending second. Wooldridge ended his night with another third-place finish after his Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series run. Former Bandolero champion Daniel Vandenburg (#97, Lower Onslow, NS) and Kelsey Hann (#07, New Glasgow, NS) rounded out the top five.
The other half of the field made their first-ever starts in Legends, with two drivers running double duty between Bandoleros and Legends. The heat races were won by MacKay and Wooldridge, with each heat deciding the inside and outline lines for the feature.
The Reliable Motors Bandoleros had their best car count in local competition in a long time – not counting the Tim’s Corner Motorsports September Shootout – with 20 cars combined between the Beginner and Outlaw classes on the grounds. Each class had a first-time feature winner, and multiple drivers made their Oyster Bed Speedway debut.
In Beginners, rookie and Scotia Speedworld regular Ben Turple (#55, Lake Charlotte, NS) claimed a double victory, winning his heat race and the 15-lap feature. During the feature, Turple charged from the back to the front ahead of an early-race yellow. On the eventual restart, he and William Silliker (#2, Miramichi, NB) fought for the lead for several laps until Silliker, making his first start on PEI, spun in turn two. The race stayed green, and Turple went on to win ahead of Ryder Smith (#43, Wellington, NS) and Regan MacBeth (#34, Pisquid West, PEI). Rookie Kace Scott (#81, Clyde River, PEI) and Silliker fulfilled fourth and fifth.
Silliker and Turple won the heat races. The second heat ended under caution after a scary crash for rookie Jace Fenton (#9, Riverview, NB), who got sideways in turn four and violently slammed the outside wall, tearing the roof apart and catching air. Fenton walked away unharmed.
In Outlaws, Hunter MacKinnon (#07, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) stole the storylines in the closing stages of the 20-lap feature, taking the lead with four laps remaining and finally achieving a long-awaited first career feature win in his fifth year of racing. Adding on to the bounce back from his terrifying rollover accident three years ago was luckily being on the better end of “The Big One” on lap two – which nearly sent Wyatt Peters (#33, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) up and over – and quietly waiting to pounce ahead of a late-race restart.
Irelyn Rose (#47, Halifax, NS) led the most laps for a second consecutive feature, but another late yellow forced her to settle for third behind Simon Doyle (#91, Stratford, PEI). Andrew O’Connor (#63, Charlottetown, PEI) crossed the line in third but lost his result due to a post-race penalty. The other top five finishers were Hudson Ruff (#83, Long Reach, NB) and Oliver Rayner (#23, Summerside, PEI). Peters and opening day winner Mason Gillis (#9, Morell, PEI) won the heat races.
Randy MacTavish (#76, Cornwall, PEI) ended a winless stretch dating back to opening day in 2024 when he recorded his first career triple win in the Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock division. On Saturday, MacTavish soared from sixth to first and held off a fast sophomore Campbell Stewart (#3, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI) in a spirited battle that saw both drivers door-to-door for many laps. Sophomore Corbin MacAulay (#17, Charlottetown, PEI) held off Adam Holland (#01, Souris, PEI) for third, with Holland making his first start this season. In official results after post-race inspections, rookie Chloe MacTavish (#5) scored her first career feature top five. Stewart won the heat race.
Another winless streak was snapped within the Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stock division, as multi-time champion Nick Chaisson (#27) wheeled his machine to a dramatic 40-lap feature win, driving into Palmer Automotive & Truck Center victory lane after a feature for the first time since Canada Day in 2023.
In the early laps, rookie Devin Gallant (#36) showed incredible speed, surging to the lead at the start and leading most of the first half far ahead of Chaisson. However, nearing the halfway mark, Tyler Gauthier (#30) – in the process of attempting another hard-charger performance like on opening day – caught up to Chaisson for second, and the two clashed for numerous laps until a flat tire sent Gauthier around. He returned to the track later, multiple laps down.
On the eventual restart, Chaisson and points leader Mike Duskey (#42, Hampshire, PEI) battled for the lead before a near chain-reaction incident broke out – while major contact forced heat race winner Randy Millar (#77) to pit to change a flat tire, Duskey managed to hold on for a second place finish, followed by Randy Snow (#26, Oyster Bed Bridge, PEI). Snow recovered from a rear axle malfunction during the heat race en route to his first feature podium since last July. Gallant and Matthew Ford (#86, Ellerslie, PEI) completed the top five.
Full official results and updated championship points will be available soon. All race winners and top five feature finishers can be found below – winners are official, further results are unofficial.
Oyster Bed Speedway’s 2025 stock car racing season continues next Saturday, June 21st, with the annual Fan Appreciation Night event, featuring ticket discounts and fan activities. All house divisions except Bombers are on the race card, with the PiccottCare Legend Super Series set to headline the show for round two of four. Races begin at 6:00pm.
