15th Annual Piston Cup Street Stock 100 Dedicated In Memory of Emmett Donahue

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – May 25th, 2025) – Oyster Bed Speedway management is thrilled to announce that the 2025 edition of the Piston Cup 100, the Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stock division’s annual marquee event, will honour the legacy of a Prince Edward Island stock car racing pioneer and Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame inductee.

The 15th running, set to be contested at the track’s season finale on Saturday, September 6th alongside two house division championship finales and two regional touring series races – each sanctioned by the Fort Garry Industries Pro Stock Tour and Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends Tour – has been named the Emmett Donahue Memorial and will award $3,000 to the frontrunner after 100 green-flag laps.

Emmett Donahue, nicknamed “The Legend,” raced at the quarter-mile high-banked oval for 25 years, capturing many wins and awards across his lengthy career. He was a role model on and off the track, always lending a helping hand to fellow competitors, teams, and staff, and was well-respected within the Oyster Bed Speedway and Maritime stock car racing communities. His accomplishments and contributions were honoured in 2021 when he was inducted into the Maritime Motorsports Hall of Fame.

Donahue passed away in December 2024 at 62. His legacy has been carried forward in numerous ways, including the Tom C. Nicholls-owned Street Stock that Prince Edward Island’s Brodie MacQuarrie won the 2024 Maritime All-Star Series Street Stock championship in, and the Piston Cup trophy, which, fittingly, has an illegal flat-top piston from one of Donahue’s engines attached to the front.

The Piston Cup Street Stock 100 is Oyster Bed Speedway’s yearly special extended-distance non-point race, which was founded in 2009 and has since been hosted 14 times with different lap counts and payouts. Many of Prince Edward Island’s and Atlantic Canada’s best stock car drivers have etched their names onto the prestigious Piston Cup trophy across the race’s 14 runnings.

Doug MacEwen won the inaugural edition in 2009, with later winners including former IWK 250 champion Darren MacKinnon, two-time Oyster Bed Speedway Street Stock champions Colton Ford, Amanda Wheatley, and Tyler Gauthier, and multi-time regional champion Michael Cormier. Cormier is the only two-time Piston Cup winner thus far, with victories in 2019 and 2024.

In 2024, the PiccottCare Piston Cup 100 was contested on Labour Day – Monday, September 2nd – in front of the season’s biggest crowd and featured one of the largest overall purses in race history. The winner, Michael Cormier, earned $1,450 in base and lap money – and over $7,500 in base, lap, tow, and contingency money was spread through a 15-car field that comprised of five Maritime track champions, four past Oyster Bed Speedway champions, three previous Piston Cup winners, and several other race winners from across the region.

The 15th annual Emmett Donahue Memorial 100 and two regional touring series races will anchor the track’s final event of the season. The Fort Garry Industries Pro Stock Tour will host the Mr. Lube + Tires 150, the penultimate race on their calendar – round nine of 10 – and the second and final on Prince Edward Island this year. The race will be a major wild card for the Series championship and set the stage for an exciting season finale at Scotia Speedworld on September 20th.

The Pro Stocks will be joined by the Cross Roads Maritime League of Legends Tour for their eighth of 10 rounds, the second and last on the Island this year. It’ll also be the Series’ third of five races across four consecutive weekends, with the stretch concluding at Scotia Speedworld for their championship finale on September 20th. The Alvin’s Auto Sales and Repair Bomber and Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock divisions will play support, each crowning champions with extended-distance features.

To add further excitement and higher stakes for the 15th running, track management, Nevin Scott, Jamie Donahue, and John Donahue have come together to offer a base winner’s prize of $3,000, a $1,750 increase from 2024.

A full competitor information package, including purse details (base, lap, tow money, contingency prizes, etc), race procedures, car rules, and more, is available on the track’s website on the rules and registration page at www.oysterbedspeedwaypei.ca.
