(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – May 19, 2026) – Oyster Bed Speedway’s 2026 stock car racing season kicked off with the 41st Anniversary Victoria Day Long Weekend Season Opener & Demolition Derby on Sunday, May 17th, in Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island.
Six racing divisions — with 57 cars on the premises — and the annual fan-favourite $1,000-to-win Demolition Derby entertained a near-capacity crowd at the 1/4-mile paved oval on Victoria Day Eve. While a mid-event rain shower briefly delayed competition and forced some format changes, racing resumed and was completed without further interruption.
With no points yet accumulated and no events completed, all starting lineups were set by random draw.
Three classes produced triple winners, with two achieving the prestigious Oyster Bed Speedway trifecta for the first time. Kace Scott (#81), grandson of the late Maritime Motorsports Hall of Famer Emmett Donahue, swept all three Reliable Motors Beginner Bandolero races to begin his second season in the division. Scott went from last to first and narrowly held off Regan MacBeth (#34) in a thrilling 10-lap feature, with Landon MacBeth (#32) and rookie Rylie Gillis (#39) rounding out the four-car field.
It was a case of déjà vu in the Reliable Motors Outlaw Bandolero division as Mason Gillis (#9) pulled off back-to-back season-opening triple victories in dominant fashion. While last year’s finale featured late-race drama that Gillis capitalized on, the third-year phenom cruised to a caution-free 15-lap feature win from the pole this time around, ahead of Ben Turple (#55) and Nova Scotia’s Bristol Matthews (#99).
Gillis (twice), Matthews, and Hunter MacKinnon scored victories in heat and semi race action. Twelve (12) cars took the green flag and produced a clean, competitive day of racing.
Nova Scotia’s Caden Tufts (#00) was the last of the sweepers, delivering a commanding performance over an eight-car field for round one of the Clam Diggers Clash Racing Series Legends division. Racing in memory of the late Peter Woods, a former racer and family friend, Tufts captured his first win at Oyster Bed Speedway since an open race and a Maritime League of Legends Tour contest in 2023. It capped a perfect weekend for Tufts, who also won at Scotia Speedworld outside Halifax, N.S., on Saturday.
Stephen Piccott Jr. (#34) repeated his previous season-opening runner-up finish, edging out Nova Scotia’s Chase Livingston (#39). The two drivers were involved in an incident during the heat race, but both continued without major damage. Cole Doyle (#12) and rookie Simon Doyle (#91) rounded out the top five with strong efforts. Eight cars started the event, while Hunter MacKinnon (#07H) did not start due to a blown motor during pre-race practice.
Ricky Bedell (#2) wasted little time bringing the ‘Shake n’ Bake’ with his new Talladega Nights Ricky Bobby-inspired paint scheme. The back-to-back Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock championship runner-up fended off Adam Holland (#01) for a statement 20-lap feature win and a heat victory to begin his fourth full-time campaign. Rosie Kitson (#13) enjoyed a career-best outing in her new car, scoring podium finishes in her heat, semi and feature for the first time.
Veteran Randy MacTavish (#76) and Corbin MacAulay (#17) posted top-five runs, with newcomer Daniel MacIsaac’s (#88) sixth-place finish besting the field’s four rookies. Bedell, Holland, and MacTavish (twice) collected preliminary race wins. Ten (10) cars competed in the event.
In the Moore Well Drilling Outlaw division, former champion Brandon Forsyth (#3) opened his third Outlaw season with his second season-opening feature win in three years. He led every lap from the pole in the 20-lap feature after also winning his heat race. Entering the year following a drop from first to seventh in points between 2024 and 2025, Forsyth quickly showed a return to championship form, flying away from the rest of the nine-car field.
Veteran Jonathan Fitzpatrick (#78) was another standout, emerging victorious in his heat race, finishing second in his semi, and hard-charging from seventh to second just past the feature’s halfway mark. He was followed by former champion Layton Delaney (#7), making his first start since a season-ending accident early in 2025, and semi winners Corey Bridges (#04) and Brady Albert (#12).
To wrap up the racing action, Oyster Bed Bridge’s Colton Ford (#35) led the way in the Fitzpatrick Consulting Street Stock division, maintaining the top position from the drop of the green flag to the checkered flag in the extended 40-lap feature. The multi-time champion and opening-day winner was joined by Brodie MacQuarrie (#66) and past titleholder Kenny Snow (#7) on the podium, with Snow turning in an excellent showing in his first runs back in a Street Stock of his own ownership in several years.
Preliminary race wins went to Snow (twice), MacQuarrie, and Ford. Eleven (11) Street Stocks answered the call; ten (10) started the feature, with rookie Campbell Stewart (#30) missing the feature due to a mechanical failure during his semi.
Eddy Wells (#171) defended his 2025 Victoria Day Long Weekend Demolition Derby win with another victory in Sunday’s 18-car, $1,000-to-win Derby.
