(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – July 31, 2024) – Oyster Bed Speedway enters its second-consecutive race week with regional touring action, this time featuring one final visit by Atlantic Canada’s best super late model drivers, along with the region’s top vintage racing stars for a Natal Day Weekend special!
The Easy-Kleen Super Late Model Series returns to the high-banked oval at Oyster Bed Bridge for its penultimate race on the 2024 schedule, the Chapman Brothers Construction 150 presented by Hynes Paving. It’ll be round five of six, which will set the stage for a championship race for the ages at Speedway 660 on August 17.
The Heart of a Champion Hot Rod Classics are set to make their first and only visit to Prince Edward Island in 2024 for round four of nine, the Subaru of Charlottetown Classic. Prince Edward Island fans will have a one-and-only opportunity this year to catch a glimpse of the old days with gentlemen-style, vintage car racing.
Supporting the two regional touring series in house class action will be the Chris’s Bobcat Services Four-Fun Mini Stocks and Moore Well Drilling Outlaws. The Mini Stocks will commence round two of three for their Super Series.

2024 SUPER LATE MODEL AND HOT ROD NIGHT STORYLINES
Penultimate SLM Race to Set Stage for All-Time Championship War
The Chapman Bros. 150 presented by Hynes Paving could ultimately decide the fate of the 2024 championship with the finale in another two weeks at Speedway 660. After a dramatic and wreck-filled East Coast International Pro Stock Tour race last Saturday, the race could very well be the “sequel at the madhouse.”
New Brunswick phenoms Ashton Tucker (#2) and Cory Hall (#83) are separated by just four points for the championship lead going into the weekend. Tucker finally had a good run at Oyster Bed Speedway in June with a third-place finish while Hall emerged victorious with the most dominant run in Easy-Kleen SLMS history, leading every lap in the Universal Truck and Trailer 150. Tucker won the last Easy-Kleen SLMS race on July 7 at Petty International Raceway.
Multi-time track champion Robbie MacEwen (#40) sits third in points, 24 back of Tucker, and is far from out. He finally broke a long winless streak with a dramatic win in last Saturday’s Maritime Pro Stock Tour race. The time to peak could be now and MacEwen could be doing just that, and collecting back-to-back Pro Stock/Late Model wins at his home track could be massive. He’ll look to improve upon his fourth-place finish in Easy-Kleen SLMS action at Oyster Bed in June.
Darren MacKinnon (#18) has finished second in three of the last five regional-touring series races at Oyster Bed and, in Easy-Kleen SLMS competition, has an average finish of third there. He is currently within a 19-point bubble which has six drivers battling for fourth in points. In the mix with him is multi-time track champion Kent Vincent (#8), who will easily be a favourite for a good run and has three top-10 finishes in four races.
New Brunswick’s Lonnie Sommerville (#23) and Ryan Messer (#1) are fourth and fifth in points. Sommerville has quietly impressed in his second Easy-Kleen SLMS season after having abysmal luck in 2023, notably winning the pole at the Universal Truck and Trailer 150. Messer hopes to avoid the mechanical gremlins that severely affected him in June. Greg Fahey (#20) impressed at his most unfamiliar track in June with a heat race win and a top-10 feature finish. Entering the weekend with a recent Speedway 660 feature win, he looks to build momentum going back home for the finale in Geary, N.B.
Dylan Gosbee (#16) continues to have a championship slump but is back at the track where he had his best performance of the season, a top-5 finish back in June. With back-to-back titles not possible anymore, he could still salvage his season with another home track victory.
Brodie Lewis (#22) is coming off his best-career SLM finish at Petty in a new car formerly driven by Allison MacKinnon. Young talent Tanton Wooldridge (#24) had a rough debut in the new #24 01 Motorsports car in June and is set for redemption this Saturday, especially after an impressive run in the recent BJ’s Truck Centre 150. He will be joined by teammate and multi-time track champion Troy Burke (#01) who returned behind the wheel last Saturday.
Defending Chapman Bros. 150 winner Greg Proude (#29) is eager to turn a year of poor luck around and finally bring home a checkered flag. Canadian Motorsports Hall of Famer Gary Elliott (#36) will enter his 899th consecutive night at a race track with his third career Easy-Kleen SLMS start on Saturday. Speedway 660 Pro Stock division star Ian Rasmussen (#81) is set to return to Oyster Bed for the first time since the 2023 Universal Truck and Trailer 150; he scored one top-10 in two starts on P.E.I. last year.

Subaru of Charlottetown Powers Vintage Car Showdown
While Oyster Bed Speedway fans will witness the drama and excitement of Super Late Model racing to conclude the event, they will first get a blast from the past from the region’s only vintage stock car racing series.
The Heart of a Champion Hot Rod Classics will make their first and only trip of 2024 to Oyster Bed Speedway on Saturday. At least a dozen cars are expected to race in the 30-lap Subaru of Charlottetown Classic, with 10 hailing from Nova Scotia and two crossing over from New Brunswick.
Stacey Clements (#50) enters the event as the most recent winner in HOAC Hot Rod action, having won the Anchor Toyota Classic at Riverside International Speedway during the IWK 250 Super Weekend event. Podium finishers Peter Lawrence (#99) and Chris Dingle (#23) will join Clements. Other feature winners this year include Patty Lawrence (#U2) in the Subaru of Moncton Classic at Petty and Jeff Ainslie (#12) in the Christie’s Classic at Lake Doucette Motor Speedway.
Jim Rankin (#63) is the defending winner of the Subaru of Charlottetown Classic. The “Screaming Demon” barely beat Patty Lawrence to the line for the win in 2023.

Mini Stocks Ready for Round Two of Super Series Competition
The cars and stars of the Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock division are set to go Super Series racing for the second time this season. After a first round that saw Cash Bridges (#69) finally claim his first career feature win, the stage has been set for a wild second 30-lap round to begin August. A reminder that both year-long and Super Series points will be on the line.
Bridges, who finished second in the most recent Mini Stock feature, is second in year-long points and the current Super Series points leader by five points over Randy MacTavish (#76). MacTavish has one feature win on the season and finished fifth in last Saturday’s feature. It could be an all-Bridges show as Jeff Bridges (#95) recently took home his second feature win of the season, with Cash finishing runner-up, and has plenty of momentum heading into August.
Ricky Bedell (#2) is the year-long points leader by 14 points but sits fourth in Super Series points, nine behind Cash Bridges. He has one feature win so far and finished fourth in round one of the Super Series. Rookies Corbin MacAulay (#17) and Austin Corrigan (#10) follow Bedell in Super Series points. MacAulay is coming off an excellent run in the last event with third-place finishes in heat and feature race action.
New Points Leader, Championship Battle Reigns Havoc in Outlaws
Heading into the last event, there was a tie for the Moore Well Drilling Outlaw division points lead. Now, we have a Super Series champion crowned and a new driver leading the year-long points. With five rounds remaining in the season, the year-long championship battle continues to reign havoc.
Last Saturday, Jordan LeClair (#47) scored his first feature win since the 2023 season finale, giving him the points lead by six over Super Series champion Brandon Forsyth (#3). LeClair ultimately finished second in Super Series points but has a great opportunity to make sure Forsyth doesn’t collect two championship crowns. Former champion Layton Delaney (#7) fell out of the lead tie after failing to finish the July 27 feature but remains close at 11 points behind.
Harley Cornish (#13), Kendall Palmer (#45), and Corey Bridges (#04) held firm between fourth and sixth after the last round, with the latter keeping solid in points thanks to a good effort by substitute driver Matthew Ford. Jamie Cummings (#81) hopes to rebound after an incident in preliminary action.
