(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – June 21, 2024) – Oyster Bed Speedway management is excited to announce that the RE/MAX Rumble will return on Canada Day Weekend in partnership with the regional touring Ahead of the Rest Mini Stock Challenge.
On Saturday, June 29, many of Atlantic Canada’s best 4-cylinder drivers will make the trek to the high-banked oval at Oyster Bed Bridge, P.E.I. to participate in the third-annual running of the event hosted by the Ahead Of The Rest Mini Stock Challenge and Oyster Bed Speedway’s Moore Well Drilling Outlaw Division.
Oyster Bed Speedway will host round one of three on the 2024 Ahead of the Rest Mini Stock Challenge calendar, a pair of 40-lap races. The first feature will count toward points in the Ahead of the Rest Mini Stock Challenge championship, Oyster Bed Speedway Moore Well Drilling Outlaw year-long championship, and Oyster Bed Speedway Outlaw Super Series. The second feature will count toward Ahead of the Rest Mini Stock Challenge points and purse money from RE/MAX Charlottetown. Contingency money will be available throughout both races.
The Ahead Of The Rest Mini Stock Challenge is a regional touring series founded in 2023 by two-time Petty International Raceway Mini Stock champion Ryan McKnight. The series returns for its second season of operation with three twin-race events at three tracks across New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
Speedway 660 (Geary, N.B.) joins the schedule for the first time as the host of round two during the SpeedWeekend event on Saturday, August 31. The series concludes its run on Saturday, October 12 with a trip to Petty International Raceway (River Glade, N.B.) for round three during the Canadian U.S. INEX Challenge event.
The RE/MAX Rumble was born in 2022 as an extended-distance event for Oyster Bed Speedway’s Outlaw championship. In 2023, Oyster Bed Speedway and the Ahead of the Rest Mini Stock Challenge partnered to provide an opportunity for mainland drivers to try the track and raise car counts.
Cody Byrne and Ricky Millar each claimed wins in the 2023 RE/MAX Rumble Twin 40s on July 1. Millar went on to win the inaugural Ahead of the Rest Mini Stock Challenge championship and his first Oyster Bed Speedway Outlaw championship.
McKnight, who finished third in Oyster Bed Speedway Outlaw points in 2023 and has since stepped away from driving, hopes to continue growing the series after a successful start last year.
“The goal for the challenge is to help promote drivers to travel a bit more, build car counts, try different tracks, learn from other facilities, and hopefully take something back home to improve their own. At the same time, drivers are getting two races out of the cost of one trip,” McKnight said.
Several businesses and drivers have stepped up as contingency partners for the RE/MAX Rumble, including Bingley’s Auto Body, Palmer’s Mobile Mechanic & A/C Service, and Petty International Raceway. The Ahead of the Rest Mini Stock Challenge is selling all 80 laps at $25 a lap. People can contact Ryan McKnight on Facebook to purchase a lap.
“We have had a tremendous amount of support from businesses, fans, and drivers, and we all know it doesn’t happen without them, and we are truly grateful and blessed. Fans should expect a wild night of racing and some new faces to the track, which should mix things,” McKnight said.
The 2024 edition of the event will use Oyster Bed Speedway’s Outlaw rules except for the camber and muffler rules, which will not be enforced. Drivers with different makes or models wanting to race must use Petty International Raceway’s weight rules. For more information about event rules, contact Ryan McKnight on Facebook.
A race day format and entry list will be released on the week of the event.
