MacEwen Breaks Winless Curse in Carnage-Filled Pro Stock Tour Race!

0

(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – July 28, 2024) – For the first time in five years, former Oyster Bed Speedway Late Model champion Robbie MacEwen (#40) is victorious in regional competition.

The driver from Charlottetown, P.E.I. led a race-high 78 laps in the BJ’s Truck Centre 150 and survived a race of carnage under the lights in which he remained clean the entire night en route to a popular second-career East Coast International Pro Stock Tour win in front of a large crowd at his home track.

The race, featuring 20 cars, started strong with a 55-lap green-flag run and a battle for the lead between P.E.I. drivers MacEwen, Tanton Wooldridge (#24), and Chris Hughes (#32). Hughes led the first 24 laps after starting on the pole but quickly fell back once MacEwen took the lead. A competition caution and two incident cautions re-racked the field for over 40 more laps of intense green flag racing with MacEwen leading the charge over points leader Jarrett Butcher (#54) and Nicholas Naugle (#08), who started the race outside the top 10.

Another competition caution packed everyone back together and was the point when the race’s tone began to change. Naugle nudged MacEwen up the track for the lead and pioneered the field until a caution on lap 121 for an incident involving Hughes and Tyler Smith (#51s). On the restart, a check-up led to a massive pileup collecting at least half of the field. The red flag was displayed and everyone climbed out of their cars unhurt.

From there, Cory Hall (#83) joined the battle for the win and moved Naugle to lead several laps. While Naugle and MacEwen fought for second, Darren MacKinnon (#18) was spun by Butcher with 15 laps remaining and collected Wooldridge; Butcher was sent to the back for the incident. On the restart, Naugle regained the lead with a bump-and-run in turn three and led several laps. Eventually, Hall caught back up and the two got together exiting turn two, spinning into the infield and forcing a late caution.

After one more incident involving Austin MacDonald (#13), Mike Rodgers (#41), and Mark LeClair (#51), MacEwen held off rookie Gage Gilby (#25g) in a four-lap shootout to claim a long-awaited win. Stephen Lively (#30) scored his first career podium finish in his 50th-career Maritime Pro Stock Tour start. Hughes and Jordan Veinotte (#11v) rounded out the top five. Multi-time Street Stock winner Mike Duskey (#42) finished ninth despite not having a front-end after the lap-121 wreck.

The race took about one hour and a half to complete. There were five lead changes, nine cautions, and one red flag. 13 cars finished on the lead lap. Hughes, Butcher, and Naugle won in Atlantic Tiltload heat race action.

In the Moore Well Drilling Outlaw Super Series championship finale, Jordan LeClair (#47) scored his first feature win since the 2023 season finale, leading over 30 laps while defending himself from brother Jessie LeClair (#46) and points leader Brandon Forsyth (#3). Jordan LeClair started the race in fourth and battled Kendall Palmer (#45) for the lead in the opening laps.

Forsyth’s third-place finish clinched him the Super Series championship as he had to finish seventh or better. The 40-lap feature was delayed by two cautions as Layton Delaney (#7) went up in smoke and Palmer went into the turn two trees. Heat race wins went to Delaney and Jordan LeClair.

Brandon Albert (#37) went back-to-back in Gauthier’s Auto Repair Street Stock competition, claiming his second consecutive feature win of the season. Albert and polesitter Nick Chiasson (#27) battled door-to-door for nearly half of the 25-lap feature, with Albert eventually clearing the way and hanging on.

Randy Snow (#26) finished third and Clifford MacIsaac (#77), substituting for points leader Randy Millar, claimed fourth in his first stock car race in several years. Andrew Thompson (#4) and Sarah Jay (#30) rounded out the field. Chiasson claimed a win in heat race action after a post-race tech call.

Reigning Mini Stock champion Jeff Bridges (#95) also became a two-time feature winner in 2024, going from ninth to first within seven laps to claim the 20-lap Chris’s Bobcat Services Mini Stock feature win. Cash Bridges (#69) finished second after starting eighth.

Rookie Corbin MacAulay (#17) started the race on the pole, finished third, and led six laps until Bridges took the lead. MacAulay made a big save in turn four with 13 laps remaining after contact from behind by fellow rookie Campbell Stewart (#3), who left the feature early. Ricky Bedell (#2) and Randy MacTavish (#76) finished fourth and fifth. Jeff Bridges and Bedell won in heat race competition.
